We’re proud to share that Bilkent University Theatre Department students Burak Toptaş, Irem Naz Aloğlu, and Elif Ekizoğlu are currently in Marfa, Texas, participating in The Marfa Intensive, a signature experience of the Texas Tech University School of Theatre & Dance.

This exciting international exchange is part of a partnership first initiated by Professor Mark Charney (Texas Tech) and our Department Chair Jason Hale (Bilkent), whose shared vision continues to shape collaborative opportunities for students and faculty across borders since 2017.

We last hosted Texas Tech students in Ankara for the Ancient Greek Mask Workshop in 2023—culminating in a performance at the ancient theatre of Priene.

This year Bilkent students are contributing to this year’s DanceTech: Rites of Spring, focused on devised performance inspired by Stravinsky.

Led by Chris Staley and Katherine Wilks, with Anthony De Naro (YNOT) as co-Artistic Director, the program brings together students from Texas Tech, Bilkent, Texas State, and the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, blending theatre and dance into an intensive two-week experience in the inspiring landscape of Marfa.

We extend special thanks to: Tim Crowley, Texas Tech alumnus and Marfa arts patron, whose generous support and resources make The Marfa Intensive possible, Mallory Prucha and Bill Gelber, whose visits to Bilkent with TTU students in 2018 helped strengthen our ties, Cory Norman, for his key role in organizing and sustaining this creative exchange.

We’re excited to see how our students grow through this transformative opportunity.

Öğrencilerimiz Marfa Intensive Programında

Bilkent Üniversitesi Tiyatro Bölümü öğrencileri Burak Toptaş, İrem Naz Aloğlu ve Elif Ekizoğlu, Teksas, Marfa’da, Texas Tech University School of Theatre & Dance’un düzenlediği The Marfa Intensive’e katılıyor.

Prof. Mark Charney (Texas Tech) ve Bölüm Başkanımız Jason Hale’in (Bilkent) öncülüğünde başlatılan ve 2017 yılından beri sürdürdüğümüz bu uluslararası değişim programı, öğrenciler ve akademisyenler için sınırların ötesine uzanan yaratıcı çalışmaları kapsıyor.

Texas Tech öğrenci ve hocalarını en son 2023 yılında bölümümüzde düzenlediğimiz Antik Tiyatro Haftası’nda ağırlamıştık.

Marfa Intensive programına bu yıl katılan Bilkent öğrencileri ise Stravinsky’den ilhamla tasarlanan sahne çalışmalarına odaklanan DanceTech: Rites of Spring projesine katkı sunacak. 

Chris Staley ve Katherine Wilks liderliğinde, Anthony De Naro (YNOT)’nun eş sanat yönetmeni olarak görev aldığı bu program; Texas Tech, Bilkent, Texas State ve Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival’dan gelen öğrencileri, tiyatro ve dansı bir araya getiren iki haftalık yoğun yaratım sürecinde buluşturuyor.

Bu deneyimi mümkün kılan cömert desteği ve sağladığı altyapı olanakları için Marfa’daki sanat destekçisi Tim Crowley’e, Bilkent’i önceki yıllarda öğrencileriyle ziyaret eden Mallory Prucha ve Bill Gelber’a, bu yaratıcı değişim sürecinin organizasyonu ve sürmesine katkıları için Cory Norman’a teşekkür ederiz.
