In 1998, Banu Paksoy obtained her Master’s Degree in Political Science from Ankara University with a dissertation on “Ancient Greek Theatre and Politics”. In 1999, Paksoy moved to Belgium and studied Philosophy at Leuven University. After completing her masters and doctoral studies in Philosophy (2009), she dedicated her inter-disciplineray research to the relation between political philosophy and theatre. Paksoy’s main research focuses on the analysis of theatrical texts, and the history of theatre from a philosophical perspective.
In 2011, she published her first book (“Tragedy and Politics: The Political Role of Tragedy in Ancient Greece”). Over the last years, she continued her research on Seneca and Ancient Roman Theatre. Currently, Banu Paksoy is working on a project where she analyses Shakespeare’s tragedies against the background of Renaissance history and political thought. Apart from her academic research, she also writes poems some of which have been published as “Yapraklar” (“Leaves”) in 2021.
